FABULOUS: 10 Years of FIDM Museum Acquisitions

Clear Image has won numerous awards for printing. Featured here is a project we are very proud of and one that won numerous awards for us and for the client. We show this to inspire you and maybe to show off just a little.

“Fabulous” was a complicated book project that took a dedicated team effort to pull off. We worked with the Photographer, the Art Director, the Creative Director, and the Museum Curator.

The Project: The project was to print and bind a hard cover book with printed end pages, a soft jacket, silk ribbon placeholder, numerous fold-outs, and precision color to match existing historical costumes. The book had gloss varnish throughout, gloss and dull varnishes on the soft jacket, and black foil on the cloth for the hard cover.

The Process: The book was months in preparation and weeks in color proofing, coming as close as possible to the original garment colorations. The Designer, Creative Director, and Photographer were at most of the press checks with even the Museum Curator actively involved in the printing process.

The Award: Best of Show and Best of Category for Hard Cover Books at the 2012 Print Excellence Awards sponsored by the Printing Industry Association, Southern California. According to the judges, the catalogue “demonstrated a printing company’s ability to transform paper into a beautiful piece of visual communication. First, the printed dust jacket, then the printed cloth cover, and finally page after page of wonderfully executed renditions of photography and text. Incorporate a variety of fold-outs and you have a piece that earned Best of Show.”
